Are the big, expensive art shows an opportunity for artists? Or are they really just money making ventures that exploit artists? Perhaps there is a better way for artists to present their work to the buying public. ArtistsToronto wants your opinion.

James Lane on Rogers Cable
P R E S S R E L E A S E
Abstract Artist James Lane Interviewed at Rogers Cable TV Wednesday, February 13. James Lane is being interviewed in the Richmond Hill studios of Rogers Cable TV. James’s recent show in Paris has genereated much interest. After an article in the Markham Economist and Sun, a progam director from Rogers Cable contacted James suggesting an interview. Instinct, intuition, spontaneity and originality all play an important role in James’s abstract art.“It’s not about me, but about the viewer’s response to the paintings according to their set of life experiences. My paintings inspire story-telling. Your story, not mine”.

Ruth Gillson
The Collective Welcomes....Ruth Gillson.
Ruth has taken stills for National Film Board documentaries, including ‘A Joy of Singing’ (1983), about Claude Corbeil and Maureen Forrester teaching master classes in China. Her photographs have also appeared in NFB promotional material and magazines. Recently, Ruth has shown her work at the Riverdale Art Walk, Scarborough Arts Council Art in the Park, Hang Man Gallery, the AWOL Square Foot, the Little Art Show and the Dominion on Queen. Ruth states, "As a photographer I see our environment in terms of lights and darks, shadows and contrasts. I’m driven by the challenge of capturing and defining the image. The starkness, the elements and the exposure are the wholeness of the pictures." View her work at www.torontovisualartists.net or visit www.ruthgillson.com

Gallery Wars
I just read a piece In Toronto Life, September 2007 issue subtitled: "Inside the big, ugly breakup of Metivier and Godard". Worth reading if you can find that issue.
